Cardiovascular and metabolic health in Guatemala

According to World Health Organization estimates, these are the main cardiovascular and metabolic indicators for Guatemala, compared with the 34 countries and territories of the Americas with a sports medicine society (FIMS/COPAMEDE).

In Guatemala, 16.9% of all deaths are due to cardiovascular diseases (2019). Hypertension affects 32.2% of adults aged 30–79 (95% CI: 25.1–40.1; 2019), and only 19.1% of people with hypertension have it under control (2019). Diabetes affects 19.3% of adults (95% CI: 14.0–25.4; 2022). The probability of dying between ages 30 and 70 from a noncommunicable disease is 14.6% (2021).
