Cardiovascular and metabolic health in Puerto Rico

According to World Health Organization estimates, these are the main cardiovascular and metabolic indicators for Puerto Rico, compared with the 34 countries and territories of the Americas with a sports medicine society (FIMS/COPAMEDE).

In Puerto Rico, 22.2% of all deaths are due to cardiovascular diseases (2021). Hypertension affects 42.6% of adults aged 30–79 (95% CI: 31.7–54.6; 2019), and only 22.8% of people with hypertension have it under control (2019). Diabetes affects 22.3% of adults (95% CI: 11.9–35.1; 2022). The probability of dying between ages 30 and 70 from a noncommunicable disease is 10.1% (2021).
